The Afterburn Foundation (“Afterburn,” “we,” “us”) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. This policy explains what information we collect through afterburnfoundation.org (the “Site”), how we use it, and the choices you have. By using the Site, you agree to this policy.
Information we collect
Information you give us:
- Contact form: your name, email address, phone number (optional), organization (optional), and your message.
- Funding applications: the department and contact details and program information you enter on the Apply for Funding form.
- Donations: donations are processed by Zeffy, our donation processor. Zeffy collects your name, email address, donation amount, and payment details on its secure platform. We receive a record of your gift (name, email, amount, and any message you include) so we can receipt and thank you. We do not receive or store your full payment card number.
- Email and phone: if you contact us directly, we keep that correspondence.
Information collected automatically: like most websites, the Site uses Google Analytics to collect usage information such as pages visited, time on page, general location (city/state level), device and browser type, and referring pages. This information is collected using cookies and similar technologies and is reported to us in aggregate.
How we use information
- To respond to messages and questions.
- To review, evaluate, and administer funding applications and our programs.
- To process, receipt, and acknowledge donations.
- To send updates about our work to people who have asked for them or supported us (you can opt out at any time).
- To understand how the Site is used and improve it.
- To meet legal, accounting, and reporting obligations.
How we share information
We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information. We share information only:
- With service providers who help us run the Site and our programs — for example, Zeffy (donation processing), Google (website analytics), our website host, and our email and internal workflow tools — and only for the work they do for us.
- When required by law, regulation, or legal process.
Published reporting about our programs is in aggregate only and does not identify individual donors, applicants, or firefighters.
Cookies
The Site uses cookies that are needed for the Site to work and analytics cookies from Google Analytics. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; the Site will still work. Google offers an Analytics opt-out browser add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
Data retention and security
We keep personal information for as long as it is needed for the purposes above — for example, donation records are kept as required for nonprofit financial reporting — and then delete or de-identify it. We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards, but no website or email transmission is completely secure.
Your choices and rights
- You may ask us what personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it or delete it, by emailing info@afterburnfoundation.org. We will respond as promptly as we reasonably can. Some records, such as donation receipts, must be retained for legal and accounting reasons.
- You may opt out of fundraising or update emails at any time using the unsubscribe link in any email or by contacting us.
- California residents: we do not sell personal information. You may use the contact above for any privacy request.
Children’s privacy
The Site is intended for adults — donors, fire service personnel, and partners. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Links to other sites
The Site links to third-party sites (for example, Zeffy donation pages and reference resources). Their privacy practices are their own; this policy covers only the Site.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will post the updated version on this page and update the effective date below.
